Islamorada Sea Horse Off Shore Report – January 21, 2018

Off Shore: We are enjoying the cool weather in Islamorada Florida Keys. Fishing has been very good for Sailfish, Kingfish, Black Fin Tunas, Snappers, and Cobia. Every day has its challenges; however, fishing is always good down here in Islamorada. Get the bang for your buck when you fish with the charter boats in Islamorada. Most of us are available for charter. Hotels and Restaurants are open for your enjoyment, too. Good weather, good fishing, good food, and good times.

Off ShoreForecast: More Sailfish and more great reef fishing. Live bait bump trolling, Kite fishing, and Sight casting for Sailfish on the edge of the reef have been the most productive. We will continue to do these types of fishing tactics through the winter months. Yellow Tail Snapper have been good around the deeper reef areas along the edge of the reef. Popular places like the Eagle, Tarpon Hole, Crocker Reef, and Bingo have been producing good catches of nice size Yellow Tail.

A little further off shore in 250 feet of water Black Fin Tunas can be trolled up with in line feather jigs. Along with the Tunas some Wahoos have been caught on a variety of skirted Ballyhoo rigs. Down riggers, weighted trolling rigs, or swimming Ballyhoo of some sort have been working well. The key to catching Wahoo is to go out there and do it. Most of the time the effort will result in catching fish. Have fun fishing the Keys! There is no place like it in America.

Back Country: Spanish Mackerel, and Mangrove Snapper are abundant in the Florida Bay area and Flamingo State park. Many guides have reported outstanding fishing trips this week. All indicators point to a successful winter season. Snook fishing has been wild and crazy at the Cape live bait fishing on falling tides near creek run offs. The Snook have been caught on lures also earlier in the morning.
